The Development of 3D Holographic Televisions
For almost seventy years televisions were large boxes with some models almost completely square in dimensions, being as deep as they wide and tall. However, the last ten years have seen televisions develop rapidly to the point where they are only a few inches thick and based on high definition picture quality with a refresh rate which can handle large forms of data and colour ranges within just a few milliseconds.
2010 has also seen the launch of 3D televisions which uses a simple visual affect to convince the brain that the images it is processing are in a three dimensional format. Providing a visual picture which appears to jump from the screen. The arrival of 3D televisions follows hot on the heals of highly successful 3D cinema movies which have generated billions of dollars in profit.
Now, the arrival of 3D televisions could almost instantly be over shadowed by the arrival of holographic televisions. That’s right, the same visual concept which was made famous by the Star Wars movies.
Although it is still in development, holographic television is a form of technology which is attracting vast sums of investment from the worlds leading television manufacturers. The very same manufacturers who have just brought 3D televisions to the entertainment technology market.
The technology uses a form of 3D which updates itself at an incredibly powerful rate which forms an image as it floats in thin air. As the technology develops it is likely to be based on a pane of glass with a holographic coating which is suspended in mid-air within a frame using a back light from projector beaming the video image at an incredibly fast refresh rate. However, the produced image will not be a full 3D image. A 3D hologram television video image requires the create of three dimensional animated video image.
But with the amounts of money which can be generated from Television Technology platforms such as flat screen and 3D it looks to be just a matter of time before consumers are able to purchase holographic televisions.
